ABOUT THE ARTIST | ARTIST'S STATEMENT | MY WORK BENCH

I am interested in texture and pattern, and in the repetition of patterns and images.
I have always been intrigued by the body and face, and in seeing other ways of using these images.
I use the figure and face as a language of structure.
The totemic images build on themselves.
Faces within faces, thoughts within thoughts,
pattern upon pattern, building texture
to form shadows and light, and finally a story is generated.
Sometimes extra eyes represent a different way to focus on a situation.

Drawing and painting have always been part of my life.
My jewelry is very much like my work on paper.
When I began to work in metal, I wanted there to be a strong connection
with the figurative and narrative qualities in my artwork.

My metalwork is fabricated by hand,
using repoussé and the surface techniques
of chasing, engraving and patinas,
which are an integral part of creating depth and contrast.

I move freely between painting/drawing and metalwork
because my eye longs for color.
The drawing loosens my hand and mind,
so I can go back to my jewelry with new ideas and insights.
